Short Life Lessons From Mark Myers

Must read

Mark Myers is the Founder and CEO of Peak Profit Solutions, a financial services company that for 15+ years has helped thousands of business owners permanently reduce their tax bills on average by 50% without replacing their CPAs or financial investment advisors.

Where did you grow up and what was your childhood like? Did you have any particular experiences/stories that shaped your adult life?

I grew up in two towns… Durham NC, then Valrico FL.

I had a great childhood in that my parents always worked to ensure I had a great opportunity to grow, learn and be successful.

Moving from Durham NC at the age of 13, away from all of my childhood friends and my mother, sisters, aunts, uncles cousins, grandparents, etc… was an experience that strengthened my mental fortitude and helped me realize that change could be really good.

Completing boot camp + job training and then 6 years of service in the Marine Corp Reserves gave me tremendous discipline and respect for our country.

Also, moving to NYC in July 2001, just before Sept 11, 2001, then moving and living in Los Angeles CA for over 15 years certainly shaped my understanding of the world specific to big city life.

What is something you wish you would’ve realized earlier in your life?

I wish to have realized that material things and physical wealth are not everything… however your relationship with your creator is.

What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise?

Spend money to reduce tax. (like on capital assets or other section 179 like deductions) If the purchase will not accelerate your business into the next level of profit and performance, you simply spend $1 to save 40 cents. (the math just doesn’t add up)

Tell me about one of the darker periods you’ve experienced in life. How you came out of it and what you learned from it?

I began seeking way too much of “self” in my 20s and 30s and walked away from faith in GOD and our Messiah. It put me many years back with regard to acquiring “true success and riches” and also did a good job in almost killing me and ruining my marriage.

What is one thing that you do that you feel has been the biggest contributor to your success so far?

Understanding that my success is not 100% reliant on me… I can plan, strive and work till my face turns blue, however without the help of others and the door being opened by our creator…. I will not be able to fully achieve my goals.

What is your morning routine?

Avacen, then scripture, then walk the dog, then exercise, then shower, then get to work! I don’t eat till usually, 11 am or 12 pm for wellness optimization reasons.

What habit or behavior that you have pursued for a few years has most improved your life?

Understanding our creator more through his Word and doing my best to walk it out with the help of His Holy Spirit.

What are your strategies for being productive and using your time most efficiently?

Time Block and focus on success sequentially… not trying to accomplish multiple things at once, however focusing on the most important thing first, and after achieving it, moving to the next most important thing…

What book(s) have influenced your life the most? Why?

The Bible – It has so much wisdom from the first to the final page… however especially in Proverbs, Psalms, and Ecclesiastes.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill – It is a great eye-opener on mindset and leverage.

Do you have any quotes you live by or think of often?

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33.
